Install Solen

Download Solen, open the download and move Solen into Applications. Launch the app, then click the sun icon in your Mac’s menu bar.

Compare with the demo

The free demo applies Boost to half of your screen and has no time limit. Move a light window across the two sides to see the difference. A license unlocks Boost across the full display.

Adjust the light

Use your Mac’s brightness keys and switch modes from Solen’s menu. Boost and Dim cannot be active together; switching to either turns the other off. Ring Light adds a light border for video calls. Adjust its size and tone from the menu.

Return to normal

Turn the active mode off in the menu, or choose Quit Solen. Quitting removes Solen’s display effects and returns control to macOS.

If Boost seems subtle

Boost needs a built-in Liquid Retina XDR display in an Apple silicon MacBook Pro, with macOS 14 or later. Try it with a bright window or image. Available brightness depends on your display, power settings, temperature and what is on screen.

If another brightness utility is running, quit it before enabling Boost. You can also try Compatibility Mode in Solen’s Preferences.

If your Mac limits brightness

High temperatures and bright content can cause macOS to reduce brightness. Turn off Boost and let your Mac cool down. See Apple’s brightness guidance for more help.

Activate or move your license

Choose License from Solen’s menu and enter the key from your license email. One license can be active on two Macs. To move it, choose Deactivate this Mac, then activate your new Mac with the same key.
